Selling Your Items

When you’re ready to sell your unneeded or unwanted jewelry, diamonds, gems and estate items and want to ensure you get the highest amount possible, bring your fine jewelry to Joseph DuMouchelle International Jewelry Estate Buyers, Brokers & Auctioneers. We are the only international auction house dealing exclusively in large diamonds, period, antique and signed jewelry. We are the auctioneers for your items.

Step 1: The Appraisal Process

The first step in selling your fine jewelry, objects d’art or artwork with Joseph DuMouchelle is meeting with one of our specialists who will evaluate your item or collection. The evaluation is based on the quality of gems, materials and craftsmanship, the period of manufacture and the signature. The estimation is based on our expertise and knowledge of what similar items are fetching in the current auction market place.

Appraisal Appointments

Our specialists are pleased to meet with you in person to evaluate your items at one of our locations, in your home or other location. If you would like to schedule an appointment, please call 313-884-4800 or e-mail: info@josephdumouchelle.com

Step 2: Selling My Property

Joseph DuMouchelle provides two options to those seeking to sell their property:
-Outright Sale
-Consignment at Auction

Outright Sale
We offer the option to purchase single items and entire estates for a high CASH amount, which is paid immediately to you. Payment is made by bank check, wire transfer, or actual cash payment which allows the seller the advantage and convenience of immediate cash payment. Many sellers prefer this method of sale rather than consignment to auction and waiting for payment. Complete discretion and privacy is a must. Your sale is private and known only to you.

Consignment at Auction
When consigning items at auction, the seller retains the ownership until the successful sale of the item at auction. When the property is consigned for auction, we specialize in getting you the most money for your jewelry, diamonds, gems, objects d’art and estate items. Our business is built on happy referrals from previous customers, clients and sellers. We want to get you the most for your items so you’ll tell others about your great experience. Selling with us is safe, easy, quick and convenient.

Consignment Contract & Seller's Commission
Consignment Contract:
When you consign property to Joseph DuMouchelle, you will receive a contract listing the items we have received. For each item, the estimated price range or “Auction Estimate” and “Reserve” will be agreed upon. You will receive a copy of the Consignment Agreement, which is the legal document outlining the terms of the sale.

Auction Estimate: example $1,000/2,000 (the amount displayed in catalog (on line and print). This is the amount displayed to give the bidders and idea of where the bidding will begin.

Reserve: This is a confidential agreed upon minimum selling price. Unless a specific reserve is arranged, a discretionary reserve is fixed at fifty percent of the low end of the estimate. If the consignor designates a reserve other than suggested, and it remains unsold, there will be a buy-in fee charged on the reserve price.

Seller’s Commission:
The commission fee is based upon the successful hammer price.
10%

Photography and Insurance.

Step 3: After the Auction

FAQs

I HAVE DECIDED TO CONSIGN OR SELL PROPERTY. DO I NEED AN APPOINTMENT TO DROP IT OFF?

Yes. We will need time to prepare your consignment agreement or purchase agreement form and payment. You may call us at 313-884-4800 to arrange a time to drop off your items or have us pick them up from you.

WHEN DO I HAVE TO MAKE THE DECISION TO CONSIGN MY ITEMS?

We hold quarterly Fine Jewels & Timepieces Auctions, monthly Diamonds Only Auctions and other specialty objects d’ art and painting auctions throughout the year. We advise sellers to consign their property at least two months in advance to allow us time to research, catalog and photograph the items so we can successfully market them prior to the auction.

HOW ARE MY ITEMS MARKETED?

We do the marketing. We reach local and international buyers through many channels, including our illustrated catalog, media advertising, publicity events and website. Prior to the auction, we also hold an exhibition well attended by prospective buyers.

Our auctions take place 4-6 times a year in the Detroit metro area. In order to increase the number of potential buyers, we accept telephone bids and absentee bids from anywhere in the world. Selected auctions allow bidders from E-bay Live to participate in our auctions. Joseph DuMouchelle auctions attract international buyers from England, France, Switzerland, Germany, Hong Kong, Canada and other countries.

WHAT IF MY PROPERTY DOESN'T SELL?

If the bidding at the auction doesn’t reach your reserve price, your items can be re-offered in the next auction or simply returned to you after a small handling fee. These fees or charges include insurance/ handling fees, photography and any specialty grading reports or authentication reports previously agreed upon in Consignment Contract. You will be contacted by us suggesting the next step. For further information please contact us at info@josephdumouchelle.com
